Restoring controls
18 Jul 2011 20:59
I'd like to clean up the faded, scuffed, controls on my bike. Taking them off, cleaning them up and hitting them with a few coats of black and clear 'aint too tough.
But I can't figure out how to paint in the lettering. On mine the lettering (run, stop, etc.) are recessed and painted white, yellow and red.
The lettering is so tiny and I can't get any paint in there without smearing it all over the place.
Anybody have any tips? Got any pics of your own restored controls to inspire me?

I think the pros use a syringe to fill the white in.
A friend of mine does these Z1 Controls. Roy[/quote]
That looks amazing! So a syringe filled with paint then you just drop it in place? Sounds like it's worth trying. Where do I get a syringe?

I kinda remember doing a test that way using Testors model car paint... I know, I know... not very helpful.
Yeah, it just smeared and made a mess.

I used water base acrylic paint for outdoor use.
Paint lettering with detail paint brush and wipe excess paint off with wet paper towel.

Wow that looks great! I don't know if I have that steady of a hand.
Where did you find the water based outdoor acrylic? Can you get it at a hobby shop?
