1980 kz550 ltd fuel tank alternatives help was created by baddogdaddy
Hey all, I just joined up the other day when I got my hands on an 80 kz550 ltd. I have a tank leak that alerted me to the fact that there's about a gallon of bondo under the paint. I'm sad to say that the tank is trash. I don't want to spend 700 on a nos tank that I'm not fond of the style of. Im hoping that you all could point me in the right direction for an aftermarket tank or give me an idea of what other years or models are compatible. Also if anyone knows a source for headers I'd appreciate that as well. Thanks in advance!

1. Strip all the existing paint and filler out
2. Apply JB Weld (with a body filler spreader) and get as smooth as you can
3. Use a grinder or sandpaper to smooth everything back out
4. Apply body filler sparingly to smooth out the metal surfaces
5. Primer
6. Paint

THe Kreem is probably overkill but better safe then sorry, plus it cleaned all the residual rust out of the tank.
All in all it cost less then $50 to repair my tank.
