Side covers and fender cover - obsolete? was created by Rider1958
So I check an online OEM Kawasaki microfiche, and see that side covers and rear fender cover for my '80 LTD1000 are listed, and you can get them in the original paint!
And they're inexpensive! (Sundance blue side cover $62.36, rear tail cover same color $91.98)
53043-013-8K (RH side cover)
36001-1037-8K (rear tail section)
So called - they checked and said "no longer available", another site said "obsolete".

Can these still be gotten anywhere?
I suppose this is well-known to in-the-know guys here, and good for a chuckle.....

When trying to find ou if parts are still available for your bike your best bet is Kawasaki.com. If you go there take a look under "Owner Info" and find "Parts Diagrams." There you can seach parts daigrams for your specific year/model bike. When you find the diagram that contains the part you are inerested in, click on the part in the list. If the "Item Status Code" shows "Active" Kawasaki still stocks the part. Also in that same window if you click on the yellow highlighted "?" you will see a list of other models that share that part. This can be useful in tracking down parts on eBay or elsewhere. I use this resource all the time and am often surprised by the parts that are still available for my 34 year old bike. Sadly, none of the body parts are available, but a bunch of other stuff is, especially if it was used on later models. I hope this is helpful. Ed

All helpful replies - thanks. Especially the info from 650ed.
Will look closer at Ebay ad(s). And salvage yards, and maybe garage discoveries (all right, now I'm dreamin').

Side cover I need I had purchased off Ebay for $80, but it's black (OEM and has emblem luckily).
Need to repaint it with the closest blue color paint I can find.

Just got excited when I saw them listed for sale new, already painted and with decal....

You know, the more I look at the Ebay ad that Martin_CSR posted, it DOES look just like the one I need, and in the right color!
Although, it seems (I don't know for sure) that there was a "Midnight Blue" and my "Sundance Blue".
True?
Close to being the same color? Or is the midnight blue (if exists) darker?

I know zilch about bidding on stuff on Ebay (never done it before), so I asked an Ebay-experienced co-worker to watch it for me. It seems to have just been listed, so 6 more days to go until the bidding frenzy I understand will occur....

Thanks for posting that Martin!
