Paint brands...

Been quite a few years since I have used the spray guns but am going to need to do some painting soon. My problem is that the last time I painted I used Ditzler paint products from a local company but they have gone out of business. Can't find another local dealer for Ditzler paints. So am wondering...what type or brand paints do you guys use? Don't want to do a rattle can paint job. What brands are out there now?

Welcome fellow painter. I used to use a lot of Ditzler Deltron myself. They were bought out by PPG and kept the Deltron label. Since than as you know everything has gone to base cote clear cote. This is what i have gone to when i was forced to. It will give you a finish nicer than the original Deltron ever would have.

Are you still using the Deltron? That's what I used...remember the brand name now. Nearest dealer is about 1 1/2 hrs. away so need to find something else. DuPont used to have a product line also. Looks like I might have to stop into a couple body shops and ask what they use I guess.

DuPont used to have "Imron" Which used to be deadly to spray because of the Cyanide content in it. I used to use both of them. The two part Poly paints like those are no longer legal. They were banned by the EPA some years ago. The closest you can get to those paints are made by Sherwyn Williams and it is called "Polane" It is used mostly for industrial purposes.

I think PPG Deltron is still available in in DBU which is not a base coat clear coat like DBC. House of Kolor is a quality brand that can be orders online. EPA will probably outlaw everything but water based paint in the near future.

Yea...not a big fan of powdercoating for that simple reason. Have a frame and swingarm here that was powder-coated and looks like crap but can't just sand it down and touch it up. Have to find a way to get that stuff off...heard it's hard to do.

powder coater told me acid or really high heat, neither of which sounds very user friendly to me ;)
i dont mind having small things that can be easily removed, but i cant bring myself to do a whole frame.
ive got a chrome plated kz1000 frame i thought about having stripped and redoing but nobody around here has a big enough tank to strip it either,im just going to stick with paint on frames from now on!

I find this stuff to be the best ever coating for frames. You even do not have to remove all the old paint or all the rust for that fact. I have used it and I love it. It even sticks to Chrome extremely well if you just treat the Chrome with Muriatic acid first.

I'll have to check those out. I stopped in at the local Chevy dealer and asked them where they get their paint supplies and found a local company. Will check them out next week.
Eastwood has paint also but haven't checked them out yet.

Otakar...is that a gloss black or a satin?

That particular is somewhere between gloss and satin. It is perfect for frames. they also have a gloss one that I used to paint a couple of chromed fenders a few years ago. It is still holding 100% on them.
