You can powdercoat your fork legs or have them anodized black. For the chrome fork tubes you can get those DLC coated. DLC (Diamond Like Coating) is used on MX bikes and probobly some crotch rockets.
Here's some DLC forks with gold anno tubes.

Black expoxy 2 part primer system is great and durable. Just would have to spray in the trip trees,so you would not scratch sliding in.
You just gave me a new idea! Thanks!
And use the old style rubber boots over the travel area.
Or if you want to spend some money, my chrome guy does industrial black anodizing coatings.
A couple of different kinds, check with any chrome shop that does industrial work.

Yeah, I've been needing another tractor...the black might get hot in the fields, though.
