Making original seat look like new? was created by zoiberg137
Just wondering if theres any secrets or tricks to making a thirty year old seat shine like new. It has no rips or tears, just has a dull appearance. Ive cleaned it and used armor all, with no affect at all.

Every time I try to research an answer to this the only solution I find is buying new seats or seat covers.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to make an existing seat look better, if not likenew again..

thanks!

If armor all don't work! Then try some paint dye for carpets and seats!
Let it sit in hot sun and spray, let dry and rub it out!
Or use oil and shoe polish, let soak in and dry!

www.wellworthproducts.com search vinal and carpet restoration. Or their "dazzel" product for restorations.
They have a spray dye aerosal. It dries and stays pliable.

I just saw a upholsterer spray dye a guys seat. It was astonishing. He said as long as it's black. It was dry in 2 minutes. He also said he would put a little gasoline on a rag and wipe vinyl seats and it makes a big difference. Now I wouldn't recommend that.... I'm just reporting what he said. I'm pretty sure he is not talking about saturating the rag in gas either. But the guy has been doing car and bike upholstering for a very long time. And he still has his eyebrows and facial hair!

Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

I have heard that a light rub with a varsol rag will bring back some luster to the original vinyl but may take a couple of applications.

This may be kind of redundent, but, yes allot of good answers already posted. But going to renew the showroom look of a vinyl seat cover that has been faded by the sun can be brought back to life. The best way I know of(and this is not to say the only way)is to seek out a local autobody paint supply store.
They can mix up a color and add a vinyl additive to the paint the seat and it will still be flexable.
This is often done to change the interior of a car, including the dash and headliner.
I don't belive it will be slippery or tacky when sat on.
Anyway, just a sugestion.also talk with the paint supply house, they can give you some good tips.Matter of fact,I just picked up a crusty KZ seat at a motorcycle boneyard (I still have a good stock seat for originality) and I am about to rebuild it with some gel pads, memory foam and build a backrest in it for the passenger,I am sick of her sliding foward while Im under hard breaking!:woohoo:
Well,Good luck on the seat renewal project.Happiness is a warm KZ seat. Tariff
