Awesome Les, thanks for posting the pics! One more question: does the indicator light cluster detatch from the rest of the panel? If it doesn't thats ok, but I'm thinking that our best bet here is to reproduce the panel rather than permanantly modify your existing part. The two stand mounts will not be difficult to reproduce, and the tabs in the corners turn the right way so as not to lock the part in the mold. Where is the previous repair, it's extent, quality and are there any concerns with its integrity? I would feel like CRAP if I damaged the panel while removing it from the master mold

Hey Stu P, he is using aftermarket gauges.

I would be AMAZED if your sticker guy could duplicate the appearance of carbon fiber. Real carbon laminated with water clear epoxy resin has a very deep, three dimentional look.

The center idiot light cluster does come out. I thought the same thing about the appearance but I'm sure the gauges have the same look as the vinyl would.

adam,
the box that is behind the ind.lites is part of the dash.the cover that has the colored lenses comes off the front.
it would be easy enough to just blank that out and use leds, the fuel ind.window and volt meter windows(little square openings in the top of the dash on either side)could also be blanked out as far as i am concerned.my fuel level indicator is erratic (i use the odometer),my volt meter is of no concern to me either.

adam here are the end caps for the fairing.

redline cycles say they have them.but would carbon ones be possible?looks easy enough to fab outta ti   :cheer: .or maybe alu.

les my good dash has the same repair on the right side by the tach.both of my ears where the end caps bolt on have never been broken or repaired tho.the dash on my 1978 z1r has both ears broken off and missing.

i am sure that i would be interested in two dashes.

Carbon end caps would be possible, but the smaller they are the harder it gets to make the cloth conform to the tight radii. Let me look at the availability of lighter weight fabric for those smaller parts, I could use it for my tank mounts anyway. Although some solid machined Ti would look pretty cool if you put a little heat into them afterward to bring out a few of the colors :) With men of your skill and tools, aluminum wouldn't be much of a challenge (Les, Leon :P )

The white specs you see in the pic are snamll pinholes in the resin that got filled with polishing compound when I sanded the epoxy and buffed it to see what would happen. I need to order some materials today that will allow me to try resin infusion, and that should eliminate those pesky little pinholes. But if your sticker guy han make a sticker that looks like that, my hats off to him ;) Les, I'm available all day today, we had a mini monsoon yesterday so my project is shut down (6" of rain over a day and a night. Thats 1/2 of our yearly average in one weekend  )
