78 KZ 1000 A2A
78 KZ 1000 A2A Black Paint was created by Househunter
When working on my 78 KZ 1000 A2A, I got the rubber boot pinched between the banjo bolt and front master. As a result, when I hit the brakes, it sprayed brake fluid over the tank. I couldn't wash off in time and now the tank looks like it has the Measles....white spots everywhere. I'm told there are no paint codes for the old KZ's so any help to find the proper paint would be greatly appreciated. The side covers are in great shape and I do not want to paint them if I don't have to. The bike has been stored in my garage since 1987 and had great paint until this incident, not faded at all!

You might get real lucky, if it is only the clear coat that melted.
You might be able to wet sand the clear coat, then re-apply clear.
Or if you need to paint. Take the side cover to a auto paint shop. They can take a sample from a small pin prick and analyze it with a computerized gadget. Or hold the tank by the paint chart, they usually have 5 shades either way, lighter, darker.
Plus, you can get those gold stripes, I see them on ebay all the time.
Good Luck.

Black is black!
If its a solid black, no paint code needed.

I have an NOS cover for a black 78 and it is solid black. So all non metallic blacks are the same paint code. And base coat clear black is not as pure of a black as cleared over straight urethane black when you compare them side to side.

Thank You much. The finish is too bad and must be stripped to bare metal. I'll post pics when complete.
I will add theat I think brake fluid must be the best paint remover ever invented;)

Hey, Ralph, how about Dupont ChromaOne 99G.
Single stage black urethane?
Nicest stuff I ever used, very forgiving, wet sand and rub it forever. Looks like black glass.
Or out of the gun, it looks like black water!
Paint my frames with it.
What's new? I have not seen any new stuff lately?
EPA is putting a stop to all the bad stuff!
Bad stuff is the best!

I was admirring the paint on a black 57 Chrysler 300 ragtop at a show and the owner explained that the single stage black with clear over it is blacker than base coat clear coat black....and after seeing that car it is.
Nothing new for me, just doing a few old Kawis in good old old school PPG acrylic lacquer. Starting a new real job so I will be cutting way back on the amount of work I take in.
