Been seeing alot a stuff about using a heat gun and compressed can air, like the stuff you blow off your keyboard with, to remove dents, heat then spray and dent pops out, anybody ever try this on a motorcycle tank? thinking this is another urban myth, but might be worth trying.

Interesting......
I have several dents in the gas tank on my 75 Z1-B.
Had resigned myself to having to use the old stand-by "Bondo".Or paying the ridiculous cost everyone wants for a new tank.Or trying to search for a reasonably priced used one.
I am curious also if there is a safe alternative!!
Great Question!!
Thanks!!

Are you looking to remove dents without repainting?
Most motorcycle tanks are a little thin so it just might be the trick, low heat.

Old timers used a torch and water.
Streetrodders and the custom crowd used the technic to repair sheet metal.
Called shrinking?
Heat and use a rag/towel soaked in COLD water.
It is an art just like leading.

Dry ice on a hot day will get most hail dents.

I tried it.
Total waste of time and money.

I have also heard about using dry ice but could'nt get my hands on some

This is the only thing which worked for me
www.dingking.tv/index.php?page=Home&SSID...867f63u4p0lq1p9kln87

I wont say ot worked 100%.... maybe 98%. and it took me 10 or more tries but it did work. If your dent does not have a crease then I would suggest this approach

I got the kit at local Canadian Tire store for about $20

I did this to my car, and it worked like a charm. However my subaru fender is a lot thinner metal and is a lot flatter than my bike's fuel tank.

Dent was about 3" long, kinda like a crease. Heated it up with a heat gun (slowly as to not burn the paint). When it was too hot to touch, I turned the keyboard duster upside down and sprayed it on, dent went pop and was no more. You turn the can upside down because that causes it to spray out the liquid nitrogen at the bottom of the can, which is what gets cold.

But again, I dont see this working too well on thick steel.

I have a beautiful 1977 new KZ1000 tank which I would love to try something on like that. The dent is about 2" round but as you say the steel is quite thick. I think it is worth a try though. The tank is brand new old stock. It is impossible to find an original paint tank of that vintage and quality.

Have you had the folks that do paintless dent repair on cars look at your tank? Some of those folks do really good work and don't disturb the paint. Ed

I tried it on my tank, didn't work at all. I'm going to try a paintless dent repair guy as soon as I have the money.
