Gents,

What's the best way to secure your sidecovers? One blew off awhile back, I just got a new one painted and detailed to match. I have replaced all 6 rubber grommets (made a noticeable difference right off the bat).

I'd prefer not to do the whole drill press/zip tie routine.

Another option is to use a spring clip where one nipple is reasonably accessible with side cover in normal position.

The pic below illustrates clip position through nipple.

Clip is inserted last, with side cover in normal position after nipple is fitted through the grommet, to prevent nipple from leaving the grommet.

Must of course remember to remove the clip before attempting to remove the side cover.

Seeing you have new grommets, good.
I used to wrap some electrical tape around the side cover nipple, gave it a little extra diameter.
It pushed in nice and tight.

Reportedly, using pods instead of the stock air-box allows more wind pressure under the side covers making them more prone to blow off and away from the bike --- at least on some bike models.

i used this option. i just went to the fishing tackle box and got two 9" steel leaders and connected the covers to the bike frame.

I used some of that epoxy putty to build up the studs on the covers and left the trailing edge "sharper" than stock so it has great grip... when I lost mine it was on the 427N and I had an idea where it flew off, went home tossed the wife on the back so she could jump off and grab it quickly before we could get run over :)

I have seen where a guy used a spring attched to both covers to "tie" them together. Takes away someof the underseat space but it worked good. Just attach the spring to a tab on each side cover and stretch between each side, Keeps tension pulling them in to each other. Just another idea to throw out there. I personally use those spring clips on mine but they can be a pain sometimes. Although it's better then losing a cover...

i used the fine jewelers type wire that i had salvaged somewhere ...and a tiny hole the just wrap it around whatever
