1980 KZ750t winter project was created by vic44139
After searching long and hard for a winter project I settled on a 1980 KZ750t. Stripped it down and rebuilt engine to stock specs. Rebuilt and jetted carbs. Gutted factory exhaust with drimell and used black heat paint to freshen them up after sanding (I think they look badass). Repainted the tank, sides and tail with same color as my sons 95 Thunderbird. Painted the old front chrome fender, after scuffing it up real good with a sander, then used left over black heat paint. New tires and a shit load of cleaning. Threw on a new set of handgrips with a short handlebar. It sounds like any BSA, Triumph, Norton, or H-D around. Factory specs say it was 55 HP. I would guess slightly more now but, who wants too. Its a nice cruiser now. Would have loved to rake out the front...but since me and welding torches dont get along...Anyhow, maybe I will check into it sometime if I meet a welder.
Here is a pic with my son.

Very nice work man.
So how do you go about "gutting" the factory pipes exactly?? I'd like to know exactly what I have to gut and what I don't.

Basically, I cut off the rear of the muffler about one inch and removed the baffle. Not really all that hard. Now has wide opening instead of stock opening. Has a nice rumble too, that I am sure my neighbors appreciate...lol.
