How bad would a flat windshield be? was created by djturnz
I was thinking that some temporary wind protection would help to extend my season. I have 12inch mini ape hangers and was thinking of cutting a piece of plexiglass to fit acros the bars and secure with zip ties.

I wantd to solicit some opinions on any adverse effects other that asthetics. I know it will increase wind resistance, but how will that effect rideability?

I'd think if the windshield is curved, the drag would be somewhat reduced compaired to a flat one.

Buffeting will be a concern, especially on side gusts or crosswinds. I think your going to be tired quickly after riding a short distance as you're going to be constantly fighting the wind.

I understand that curved would be better, that is why I am asking. I don't have curved glass, but I do have a big sheet of flat plexi. I was looking for a way to avoid having to buy a commercial shield.
I'm not sure how to curve what I have, but maybe I need to see if that is possible.

If you can make a wooden form, the plexiglass can be heat formed using a heat gun.

I think a special bit is needed to drill the mounting holes.

I think that would be the biggest concern, especially with plexi.

If a zip tie failed it would smash you in the face or cut your head off. I wouldn't do it.

Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

Just get a Vetter Fairing, they come on and off easy, 4 bolts that hold it onto the bracket :) I rode my Z1 all winter one time cause i had the fairing, mind you i was colder than hell but it made it manageable.
