Congratulations! I also, at one time, picked up, from eBay, a 1977 KZ1000B1 dealer-takeoff tank...for US$10.00 plus shipping. I'm still chuckling about that one.

I bet that was several years... there don't seem to be quite as many great deals any more.
While we're waiting for the op's photo...
Not ten bucks cheap, but $50 total shipped for a new CSR tank w small crease dent didn't seem too bad to me. The color is Sundance Blue metallic but it looks kinda purple-ish.

It was several years ago, but the seller didn't take the time to clean the tank (the outside) and the inside had never seen gasoline so it was immaculate. The eBay pictures looked terrible...filthy dirty but I bought it for the condition of the inside of the tank. After washing and waxing the outside, I realized the tank had never been on a bike as it was missing the pin on the tank gas cap latch. The seller could have gotten considerably more if they would have just cleaned the tank

That's not too bright, gee. One man's trash turned out to be treasure.
I did a buy-it-now on a pair of nos mirrors this year & paid immediately.
The next day the seller sent an email: "My nephew is new at this & mistakenly posted the mirrors at the wrong price & he was supposed to list them separately...." ... uh oh, I thought. Then the email continued: "..., so you got a good deal" ... whew, that was a close one.

You know, a good old-fashioned autobody shop might be able to work a bit of that dent out while saving the paint. The KZ1000B1 tank I picked up has more of a crease in it that I'm willing to live with

The thing is, I bought the bike from the original owner. The title is still in his name. Except for the header and air filters it's all original.
It's hard to see in the pic but the paint is scratched and chipped pretty bad at the dent.

i still get what i consider deals if i am patient and am willing to watch the same type item on many different auctions, over time one auction will not get any bids...it may take six months.......i'm watching zx550 tanks and the day i started wathing em 4-5 months ago...i missed one needed refurb for under 80 total...since then the closest is 225 nicked up...
when ever i'm in a hurry and buy up higher than i needed to,the next week my deal pops up and i'm already in the mail and over spent...
i got a left side cover and tail cowling in pefrect shape to complete my extra painting set, for a rare /hard to find MKII chain model for 110 free shipping
a MKII tank no dents stripped and ready to restore for 75.00 free shipping
just today i found i had won and did not even check ,back on the 6th...j model carb boots perfect shape mounting manifold screws and hose clamps all shiny...17 shipping included...final bid was mine 5.00......
when folks say the deals are all gone on e-bay...i wonder if they have waited and searched enough......29 smothies,ELR fairings, stock seats, early z heads and 28 carbs..all go super high...but.....all those still go cheap once in a blue moon also
good score...congrats
