I ordered some KG air cure 1200 to use on parts that I cant cook in the oven. I'm thinking of doing the plastic airbox, oil cooler lines (partially rubber), and carbs (after soda blasting and ultrasonic cleaning).

Any experience, advice, input appreciated.

Tell me they have a GLOSS BLACK!
You should not have any trouble, pretty much could use any type of paint on those parts.
Any engine paint or the newer brake caliper they sell nowadays.
I wish VHT had a gloss black 1500 degree paint.
It's too late to powder coat, cause engine is assembled.

Good luck with your project.

Just googled it, and they have it! 6 oz. can only.
Might need 2 for a whole engine and head.
Would work nice on brake master cyl and calipers!!

There is an old thread on Gun Kote somewhere here.

On my motor I used Valspar 1200 degree Woodstove Paint (from Tractor Supply) on my top-end, and Valspar Tractor and Implement Paint, low-gloss w/hardener, on the bottom end. On the case covers I also used the Tractor and Implement, but in gloss black. I also used the gloss on the frame.

The woodstove paint comes in 12oz aerosol cans ($6). It needs to be heat cured within 8 hrs of application.

The Tractor and Implement paint I bought in qts ($12)and I also bought the corresponding thinner and hardener (probably about $30 for both).

Wow, did I open up a new one!

Gun Kote, $39 for 6oz.??
They have tinted Laquer thinners? For applying?

WTF?

All I want is nice, shinny Gloss Black for my whole engine, head barrels and cases.

I guess I'll stick to the PJ1 Gloss.

I used to use Harley laquer 25 years ago, for the HD cylinders.

I used the silver Gun Kote on my CB550 motor, product ID 2408. It's holding up well and it looks close to the stock silver color.

I don't have a close up picture and it's nearly midnight right now. Here's a picture of the entire bike.

$39 for 6oz ? I paid $12 for the 4oz size. I thought that it came 4,8, 16, 32 and gallons?

This is the KG1200 that I ordered:
www.kgcoatings.com/index.php?p=product&id=13&parent=8

Also, I know that it comes to personal preference, but I sprayed my cases with gloss black first and didnt like it....way too shiny. I went back over them with the "low gloss" Valspar, which is still pretty glossy.
