Average price for a basic paint job? was created by Topper
I've been calling around locally and prices for a basic re-paint of my KZ305 tank and two side covers are ranging from $250 - $900. This seems like a pretty wide range.
In your experience what's typical? I know the paint alone can cost $250 so I'm leery of the low end price.

I was quoted (1/4 fairing, tank, sidecovers, frt fender, tail piece) for a repaint (stock color - firecracker red) between US$800 to US$1800 IF I did all the prep work as in sanding, filling any nooks and crannies, and I supplied the decals....do be careful of the US$250 job...it might be a spray bomb special.
One of our KZR members (Mark Wing) paints for himself and other KZR members (and he paints well)...he should be along soon to give you a proper assessment.

Those prices are in the ball park, the low one your probably not going to get the exact color you want. What color are you looking for? And there's no tail piece on your bike?

No tail piece. Front and rear fenders are chrome. I don't think I'll be that picky about getting the exact color I want.
I might want to get some stipes. This is what the original paint looked like:
If I could have exactly what I want it would be that same paint job, but in blue.
I wouldn't be expecting to get the stripes or anything other than a basic solid color for the $250 job. Just so long as that paint was durable and won't melt when I dribble gas on it (like the current paint does).

I also own a custom paint shop in the US. as long as the pieces are not in horrible shape, you would be lookin at about $600. Any reputable shop would not want you to do any prep work. If any one brought something in that they had prepped, I would either re-do it, or I would make them sign something that said that we would not warranty the work.
