candy black paint? was created by 9am53
I am redoing the styling on my bike and want to paint in a black candycoat if there is such a thing, anybody know of one? I guess DuPont Hot Hues HAD a charcoal candy, but I guess it's discontinued.

Look at paint code 984A for (of all things) a 96 Geo Prizm. Thats what I used to paint my bike.Black with gold sparklies in it.I had them add a bit more "candy" to mine and it came out real purdy.bj

Candy black sounds like it will be tough to do and I doubt anyone sells it. You could mix black and clear and shoot it over a silver base used for candies. The Geo color mentioned is a car color so it just a metallic black .... probably similar to the 2010 Jeep color. I just did a set in the 74 scheme using the Jeep color, I will post photos.

Hmmm... This may work but.....

Metal Cast primer has flakes in it....
Use the Metal Cast black, Paint is translucent...
Use several coats... for desired Black depth....

Example, the Orange in my paint with minimal coast looks anodized gold.... Additional coats becomes deeper in color thus the burnt orange I was looking for... Same principle... ;)

Even with deeper color, metal flake shines through in sunlight....

We use candy black all the time when we black out tail lights. We just add black base to intercoat clear, 5 to 10 percent black to clear.

I do it all the time. There is a standard process.

1)metal flake underbase
2)clear base cote with PPG black die.
3)clear cote top cote.

There are clear cote dies available from PPG in all colors with the exception of white.
DMX219-PT is the black tint.
If you use black pigment with clear it will look muddy and unprofessional. There is the right product for every process.
