Doesn't "cover" the gauge, it goes in front of them. There is a small black rubber edging on this "cut out" that more or less surrounds the gauges, just in front. So yes the 16" would be close to measuring from the edge of the gauges. Here is a pic of my 550 with the same shield, just smoke instead of clear.

So given that I have the stock handle bars, you don't have any reservations about the windshield fitting my particlaur bike ?
I see in the photo where the unit fits around both gauges - so it looks like it may be what I need. I need something to help block the wind, but I don't want the larger size. Thanks

It will go right on there easy as. And right back off so you can wash/ clean, change light bulbs, etc.

I have one very similar except I modified the mount hardware so it lays back flatter and I also trimmed the top of the shield so I look over the top and not through the plexi, but the shield still sends the airstream just above my head.
