I've got a SlipStreamer SportFire Clear 19" for a 7/8" bar, with all mounting. I went over to a Vetter fairing.
It's on Ebay, Item #330461290715. Its got 1 season of use and is in good shape.
These have a quick release to take it off with just the turn of 2 wingnut clamps. I still have the same in Smoke on my 550.

First, decide how much protection you want.
Spitfire to just block some wind from your chest, to Plexifairing III that will provide protection to your buddies riding on each side of you (Ok, I exaggerate a tiny bit).

I've had several windshields and have never found the ideal all purpose one.

The 19" Spit Fire measures from the tallest point, it has a notch for going around your gauges. I'm 6' and I look over the top, but it blocks a lot of wind. Nothing like a full fairing, and there is others smaller and taller. Rider height and ergonomics will play into windshield selection. The 7/8" is the diameter of the handle bar at the grip/ control area. Stock on a KZ is 7/8", the aftermarket can supply 1" bars but you need the clamps on the trees and all the controls etc.

Your e-bay item looks nice - it may be just what I need. I'm going to measure the 19 inchses and see where that puts my vision looking forward. Thanks for the heads-up.

Yep, would do someone good. I just got spoiled after buying a 1100 that had a fairing, so I had to get 1 for the 1000. These are the longer ride type bikes, I did 3600mi on the 1000 in July. Still like this style for the 550 though.

Will I need to adjust anything on the handle bars to get this installed ? BTW - do I need to measure 19 inches from the top of the instrument area - ( as the windshield fits on top of that area )? Also, is the final install slightly slanted towards the driver, or is it straight up ?

I will angle back, and 19" from outside of the gauges, about 16" from the gauges. @ clamps go around the bar, they have a Allen socket bolt, then there are 2 wing nut quick release bolts for the windshield connection, and adjustment. Depending how many things are on your bars and bar type, if you have the stock bars and controls, then this will fit great, takes about 8 minutes to fit the first time. Once the clamps are there it comes off really fast, and right back on.

So if I understand you correctly, the shield actually covers the plastic casing of the gauges in front ( closest to the front tire - and does not just fit around the top of the gauges ? When you say 16 inches from the gauges do yhou mean that I can measure 16 inches from the the glass top of the gauges - and that's where the top will be ? Sorry for all the questions....
