GPz750 bodywork onto a KZ1000? was created by 9am53
Hi, I want to make a KZ1000J clone out of my LTD, sort of similar to what Otakar did, just without the front fairing and chin scoop. Does anybody know if the GPz750 tank, side covers, seat and tail would fit onto my bike? The GPz750 and 1100 look identical, I just don't know if the frame is different and if the mounting will be different. Here is a tatty example of a potential donor bike for my LTD

The 1982 KZ750R1 (aka GPz750) may look similar to the 1981/1982 KZ1100B1/B2 (aka GPz1100) but, side-by-side they are quite different. Tank length is different (the 1100 tank is about 2" longer), side cover mount pegs are placed differently, and the 750 seat is different. The only piece that is identical is the tail piece. Moreover, the 750 tank will not fit on a GPz1100 frame as the tunnel is too narrow. I speak from a position of strength...I have both GPz's

good to know, I will get the tail piece from that grungy one and hold out for some genuine kz1000 parts. THanks. BTW McDroid, if you ahve the kz1000/kz1100 manual what is the bike on the cover? It looks like a regular J bike, but has the nice long square tank, with the black orange and yellowish paint scheme with the 1000 in numerals across the tail section similar to the 750s...is that a euro J model or something? That is exactly what I want.

Actually the only part that did interchange between the two bikes is the part you don't want to use, the front fairing. The "J" also had completely different tank from the GPZ, the side covers, seat, and the tail were the same.

so are you saying that the tail on the 750 isn't the same as a J tail? I have seen some standard J's that have the square tank like on a GPz, maybe it's just in europe though. Scroll down to the J's and see the 3 it shows you, I want my bike to look similar to the 3rd one, just before the ELR's

In 1982/83 the J2 and J3 used the same tank as the GPz1100. But the 750 parts did not interchange with the 1000/1100
