What do you guys do to paint the emblems on your bikes? I need to clean mine up and wondering what has been done by others.

I use model airplane paint with a small brush. I have used the touch up paint from the autoparts store but find the brush to be big for detail work

Try this place out for decals and emblems for your old bike.

Here's one in Australia but still worth it if you have something hard to find.

Good luck.

I used gold leaf from a craft store to restore my thirty year old side emblems when I had the bike painted.
It worked out better than I expected. :cheer:

The ones I have been painting "are" reproduction emblems. Nothing like the factory ones if you can find them.

I use a base coat urethane with an activator. Add a little reducer and let it flow. I have sign painter brushes that are very precise in size. Quite pricy but unbeatable performance.

So what I'm hearing is that it's a "hand job" no matter what. That's what I was expecting. Where does one get "sign painter brushes"?

You can paint emblems by using spray paint, doing it in several steps for each color. The way I do it is to apply grease to the areas that I don't want painted in the first color, spray the paint, let it dry to the touch, then wipe off the greased areas. Repeat for the next color. etc. I apply the grease by putting a very light amount on my finger & lightly patting the raised areas or by using various applicators. I can't say that my way is easy, but I'd rather spray the paint than apply it with a brush.

Clean the emblem first of course. If need be, soak the emblem in brake fluid to remove the old paint. Use a toothbrush if necessary.

That's a great idea, but unfortunately I'm having to deal with the black disappearing around the Kz900 emblem. I have originals for the model designation and was able to find some OE Kawasaki emblems for the tank from the local salvage/speed shop (not sure which model they came from, but they fit right) so I just need to repaint part or all of the model emblems and possibly one of the Kawasaki emblems.
