Ceramic Header Paint, Does it Work?

The headers on my 750H are rusted beyond polishability. I am wanting to spray them with ceramic based high-temp paint from a can and am wondering if anyone has had luck with such a venture, or will it flake/burn off in short order?

Thanks

It works ok, but has a funky purpleish hue to it after it bakes on there.

BBQ high temp paint ahs worked good for me for a while, but the header needs to be cleaned perfectly before application, or it just flakes away after a few weeks.

I like new chrome exhausts.

It might be cheaper to have them sandblasted and then painted with high temp engine paint.

Another process would again involve sandblasting but then have them metal sprayed.

When I lived in San Diego Ca. I had my Kerker 4 into 1 sandblasted and sprayed with Aluminum from www.flamesprayinc.com/

The coating is white and I sprayed flat black Hi temp paint on top.

I'd imagine there are similar companies where you live.

you could steel wool or rough paper sand em and step to finer grades of paper/wool..takes about 20 minutes and your ready to spray em...then flat black em with high heat paint ...it needs a touch up a few times a season and can be done on bike if carful-looks fairly cool--looks cleaner than shitty pipes for sure--and is like 6 bucks a can...gloss high heat paints dont work on headers cause it gets to hot...... imo......jonnygorman wrote:

There is a place here in the Chicago area that will Ceramic coat your header for $125 inside and out with either silver or black. This will give you real thermal barrier protection.

www.lo-ko.com/services.html

I have attempted the spray can thing with some of the best and most expensive paints available and they just do not last. After spending $70 to have the thing sand blasted and than another $25 for the VHT spray cans of primer and paint, for the extra $25 it is more than worth it. With the Ceramic you can drop external header temperatures by as much as 400*f
