Hey guys, I have a new maier plastic fairing, but the cutouts for the bars are in the wrong place. I need to trim it down some but I'm not sure how to do it and have it turn out looking good (instead of hack up and crappy).

I was thinking about using a sanding drum on my dremel, but I'm not sure how long it will take.

it this the best method, or is there a better tool for this job?

Would changing handlebars be an option?

Good Fortune! :)

actually i just went to Daytona bars. I had on the stock mini ape hangers and a vetter fairing, but I wanted something more forward leaning. So I'd rather use the new bars.

How much material do you need to remove? Just a trimming or cutting out a good portion.

for the long straight cuts id gradually sneak up on the line then use a file to straighten things out B)

I'd make a cardboard template to be able to trace where and how much material to remove. This way when it's flipped over, the size will stay the same.

As for cutting, a saber saw with a coarse blade will make quick work of the project, followed by file and dremel sanding drum use.

Keep a spray bottle of water or a damp sponge to cool down the plastic/fiberglass as you cut.

The Daytona bars are already much lower than the oem bars shown in the avatar (see below).

Is the maier designed for clip-ons?

I was working off of a picture that another inmate sent me. He trimmed some off, but did say how.

I solved it another way. I built an extention for my headlight that pulls it 3-4 inches forward. This will move my entire assembly forward and off the bars.

That's the plan anyway. I'll post pics when it is compete.

thanks for the responses. I decided not to cut anyway.
