Stripping black engine paint

The black paint on my GPz motor is faded and needs to be replaced. Would crushed walnut shell media remove it?

I'd try the soda blasting first and if it takes too much time then the crushed walnut shells.

Many years ago, the walnut shells were used to clean deposits from jet engines at idle rpm, I think now a soap or de-greaser is used.

Is the engine going to be blasted all together? This will mimumize getting the media inside the engine.

I will be taking the engine completely apart and will be blasting inside a big tupperware tub to save on media. I know soda works well for grease and grime, just thought it wouldn't work on the black engine paint.

I tested soda blasting on a GPZ 750 oil pan and thought it worked pretty good. Better than walnut shells.

did you use arm and hammer as in the "budget blaster" thread, or did you use the proper blasting soda? I am not sure how available it is here in canada...

Would agree on the soda blast, don't think walnut shells will work - factory paint on the GPZ,even though it's old and faded, is still hard to remove.

I get it at a Mill & Feed store... they also have a gardening dept ~ I don't know what it's used for, but they had a pallet of the stuff. It's listed as food grade, and comes in fifty pound sacks for $20.
