Forgive me I know that there many threads about this already. I have a painted zr550 engine. It is grey. The paint is flaking due to oxidation under it. I want to do the engine in a satin/semi gloss black and I will probably do the case covers in KG gunkote gloss black.

Questions are :

What media is best for stripping w/out disassembly (4000 mi motor). Blasting soda or shells ?

Is there a media that wont ruin gaskets ?

What type of prep/cleaning solvent is best (to not ruin gaskets ?

Paint recommendations for repainting while assembled ? POR, Sherwin Williams, etc ??

Not TRYING to be lazy. I do want it to look good, but it's not a show bike. I also know that if I disassemble the motor I wont want to put it back together stock AND it will sit apart for years....got too much stuff like that now.

I've had good luck with the PJ-1 satin black engine paint.
If possible on the smaller parts, after painting, let them air dry for a day and then bake in an oven at 350 F for 60 minutes.

This will make a durable paint coating. As for stripping, I've heard good things about the soda blasting as it will not damage parts like grit or sand blasting does.
