Welll, im in the process of restoring this 79 KZ650c....and it has the factory Luminous Blue paint with the gold striping on the tank and rear fender.

I sanded the tank down no problem and it is perfect.

But MY QUESTION IS....what is a good way to remove the pin stiping from the plastic rear fender without damaging the plastic???

Im hesitant to sand em down because i dont want to damage the plastic...

Any help would be very much appretiated.

Why would you remove the original paint and stripes if you're restoring the bike? Ed

because the clear coat on the tank is all flaked off and faded from the sun.

I would leave it original, i love how it looks but the paint is damaged pretty bad. So im painting is a cool metallic dark grey.

3M makes what is called an "eraser wheel".It works like a pencil eraser on stripes. Any good auto parts place should be able to get one for u.bj

Best to warm the taped on stripes with heat gun/hair dryer and scrape/ peel them off with finger nail or wooden/plastic scraper. Clean glue off with goo-off/wax and grese remover, then block sand to level off the old clear, prime, sand, paint. Time consuming but will not leave images in surface from old paint and saves you fron over priming to fill stripe ridges.

Where stripes or decal or adhesive stick-on hasn't been clear-coated, soaking with WD40 will often loosen it up for easy removal, without damaging the underlying finish.

Good Luck! :)
