so i looked on amazon and googled dvd's for watching before buying materials, tools, paints and chems and such...

there are actually a lot of cool DVD'S for very cheap that seem to cover the basics and teach tricks folks take years to develop/learn......

i am ready to order a good DVD and wanted to know before i do if anyone has seen any they might recomend looking at......

some were pretty funny in their hook and bait...going for the o.c chopper crowd...i just wanna step by step with chapters on building your first booth to which cheap tools and paints will work for body painting...peace

I used to paint many years ago, and the equipment is quite expensive. You need good spray guns (we used to use devilbiss guns) and a good compressor/tank with an inline air pressure regulator and water trap. The booth is a whole nother animal, you need airflow and filtering to keep the lint and fuzz out of the air so it won't settle into the finish.

If you want to do fancy effects you need an airbrush which is a different kind of spray gun.

Thanks bounty,
i am gonna have a pal do a pro job on one body set with the green kz900 and lime and yellow stripe decals..but i would really like to paint my other set to have to ride with while my green is in transit...back up set.....i'm excited about the stock re-do being really pro,new emblems for the tank and covers also...but i have an extra set also...one i could do a solid gloss black with new emblems too....
the 2 hr dvd seems to be the best as far as info that i have seen so far looking...no airbrush art for me now...lol.....

i know i will need to build spray stands to firmly hold each body peice and spray from all angles without touching to rotate ect...and i can get a simple framed booth built no prob for this small one time deal.....i also know the chemicals for prep and finish and paint will run maybe 200 or so...i have a o.k compressor and was told by my pro friend that a 100 dollar gravity feed home depot gun is plenty good for my few bikes needs....

i always get stuff to watch first when doing projects where i may not know the pro's tricks....

gonna research some more adds for dvd's

OMR says that the yellow paint these guys sell is equivalent of gold anodized look when done right/light coats over bare aluminum......

here is a guy showing how clean bright metal can acheive this look...500 degrees it says....would i be able to change tires without it going south on me...i doubt it...would be fun to do some rmags...or a few brackets and pegs ect...in a good light gold

I used the metalcast green on my bike...if you paint light coats over bare chrome or polished aluminum it really does look anodized. OMR and I both used the "ground coat" first, it basically gives you a silver metallic sparkly undercoat that is then sprayed with the anodizing color coat, like a candy coat, sorta...

Craig, what paint do you know of that would hold up to tire changing tools/wrenching... Seriously Brother, not many if any. Hell, even powder coating can chip in such situations...

For small projects, the Preval canister works just fine, no need of spray gun and compressor... Seriously, this isn't that hard to do... ;) and in taking your time in prep, speed, angles, distance off subject, paint flash times & curing, wet sanding, it will come out purdy...

Seriously, this is all I used...

Make sure you use automotive clear as gas and brake fluid will lift that stuff Quick.. The main key to painting is prep and a Good spray gun .. I;ve been painting 35 yrs. I have a top line gun called a Sata Jet [Don't ask How Much] and heres a paint stand..

I like the stuff OMR and thats why i've posted some of the clips that i thought will be cool for some items....but i think i may be able to learn to do some gun auto spraying and i have plans to make a trrack bike and some restoration kz.s and z-1 and wanna see if i can learn somthing...i've painted a lot of stuff with rattle cans before and am about as good as the next guy really...i just wanna move into a better product with more suppliers for exact colors for my tackday beast......

but the rims and a few goodies may get a few tries with the dupli over coat anodize.....and yes if a guys carful he will be able to work on a good coated rim.......
