Duplicolor Bronze wheel paint was created by 9am53
Anybody use the bronze wheel paint from duplicolor? I am planning on painting my LTD mags, I thought about a silver wheel paint, but I thought maybe something else would be nice. Bikes like Rstnick's that have the gold look great, but have other gold accents and paint to go with it, I think it would look kind of funny without other gold anywhere else.

I figure the bronze is kind of a compromise where I get the unique coloured rim look without having to match the rest of the bike to it. I have looked up pics online of this paint in action but it is always on cars, it looks good there, but just wanna know what it looks like on a bike.

NOw that I think about it, maybe the bronze would end up looking like poo brown after a long ride...maybe silver it is...

Look at photos of stock KZ1000R1/R2/KZ1100R1 and they all have gold wheels...and no gold accents on the bodywork...and they look good :)

I haven't used the Bronze but did use the flat black for my frame paint! ;) No chips when prepped correctly! Held up better than PJ1 frame paint I tested...

Now, I have had a couple deep scratches where even powder would have flaked but that was due to my screw up in one man motor mounting and installation... Best thing was though, sand down, repaint know one knows the difference....;)

I'd be careful applying Lacquer around Enamel paint as the solvent in the lac will probably wrinkle/lift off the other paint.

Now if you can bake the Enameled part for 1 hour at 350 F, it might survive exposure to the Lacquer paint.

What I meant was that since I am repainting my frame, lacquer would be nice and convenient for touch ups, so I would not be applying lacquer ontop of enamel, rather stripping everything and putting just the lacquer

Enamel based...

very few paints I have found are lacquer any longer... Not saying they don't exists for I'm definitely no paint expert by any means, who knows but I just haven't found them...

for what it's worth.....i scored some nice air fork caps in gold aluminum ...e-bay action/redline cycles old era caps.....then decided the gold was nice with my yellow stripeing , so i got some knurled gold bar end wheights to replace my black ones.....those two small items have really dressed up my front end up nicely and are not at all in conflict with the old school ripper tricks i'm sticking too...and do recieve comments to that effect too......if i did paint my extra set of lesters and ever decide to runs mags for a season...duplicolor gold will now be my test paint for sure....good thread too B)

Well if you want to keep with anodized look....

Over chrome/bare metal:
Adhesion promoter then metal cast Orange (light coats = anodized gold)... The paint is translucent... ;)

I know, I know...Shameful plug  but oh well.....

I may have posted this before, but the best way I've found to strip Anodizing from Aluminum,is to get a can of the spray on oven cleaner.

Spray the part you need to strip if possible in a dry sink, let the cleaner work for 15-20 minutes, and then wearing protective gloves, wash the now bare piece with hot water, followed by a dish washing soap scrub and a good rinse.

Stock LTD rims are not aluminum right? aren't they magnesium alloy? I thought I would clean the hell out of them and just sand the parts I plan on painting, would I need to remove the black completely? I thought with enough sanding and cleaning I would be fine. Ideally I want it to look like my old spectre rims...the metalcast looks great on my bike but I think it would be too much to have it on the rims too. I would feel like all that's missing would be some underglow like those honda civic boyz.
