I haven't used that product, but here's something I used with great success. Open link, go to "gun blueing" then "metal finishing" and go down about 10 items until you see "Blue & Rust Remover." I used it on the inside of healight ears to remove rust. It eliminated the rust without hurting the chrome. I soaked the rusty area good for about 2 hours and POOF the rust was gone. I don't know what it will do to paint although I guess it will damage it.

I think it is similar to this stuff...and I'm really curious if either stuff works as well as they say...it appears to be 'magic'

I've tried this stuff and it works just don't forget about the soaking parts! I left a few steel brackets with a light coat of rust for 2 days and they turned black. The black stuff did wipe off and I had no rust left but the solution was black and thick goo after that.
It takes time to work but it does work!

I find it is easy to get rid of the rust but some products leave you with a bare metal that rusts up immediatly before you get it completely dry and get gas in it.

For rusty tanks, the best thing i've found is a product called "the Works" toilet bowl cleaner. They sell it at walmart for $1.16 a bottle. I had a customer's bike with alot of rust in the inside. It worked better than anything else I have ever tried. I'm sure this process would work on other rusty parts as well, just soak the part in the soulutions.
Materials Needed:
2 bottles of "the Works" toilet bowl cleaner.
Good quality duck tape
Phoshate etching solution (Got mine from Columbia Coatings, I use it to prep parts for powdercoat) not essential, but it's pretty cheap and does a great job of preventing flash rust when your fuel level gets low. It actually treats the metal, so the protection lasts.
WD-40
Safety goggles and chemical resistant gloves.
Instructions:
1.Drain gas and rinse well with dish soap and lots of water.
2. Use good duck tape and tape up the petcock, vent, and fuel gauge sending unit holes (after removing the parts.)
3. Put on your safety goggles and chemical resistant glove...THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!
4. Pour in 2 bottles of "the Works" into the tank.
5. Slosh the stuff aroung in the tank for 30 min to 1 hour (you will see the rust disappearing).
6. Pour out the chemicals, and dispose of properly.
7. Remove the tape, and wash the inside of the tank very well with lots of water.
8. Blow out as much water as possible with compressed air.
9. Re-tape the holes, pour about 6-8 oz of the prepared phosphate solution into the tank and slosh around for about 5 min.
10. Dump out the solution, remove the tape, and dry again with compressed air.
11. Spray some WD-40 inside the take, slosh it around to coat it, then blow out the excess with compressed air.
Bam, for less than $20.00 and a few hours work, your tank will be almost as good as new. I've done this to quite a few tanks with great results. Just remember to be careful with the chemicals, and have fun.
