Old school or modern look?
24 Mar 2006 09:00
I'm new to the old school bike scene and have always rode and owned 96 or newer sportbikes until now. I have a 79 KZ650B and a friend has asked to try his flame paint job skillz out on the bike. The style would be exact to the pic below but the flame patterns would be different. Right now I have a newer style projector headlight on my bike because the OE light was wrapped with duct tape when I picked the bike up. So my question is should I keep the bike looking "old school" or should I go modern with it? If I go modern I would keep the current headlight on it, put smaller more flush turn signals, smaller led taillight, black out many parts like exhaust, block & heads, fenders, etc., throw a newer swing arm on so I can put a 180-190 tire in the back, newer front end and get digital gauges.
I know it's my bike and it should suit my taste but I'm also respectful of where the bike came from and the opinions of my peers in the KZ community. I'm about 65% going "old school" with it for now.

First off, I love those flames! would look good on any style of bike. The way you customise your bike is up to you, I like upgrading them, but lots of people like them stock. If it was my bike, I would keep that light and go for the modern style, but thats just me.

Flames don't bother me at all. In fact, I kind of like them. However, you have a very trick new scooter (the GSXR) and no matter what you do to the 650, it will never handle or look like the 'new school' bike. Do the best of both worlds...keep your Z650 'old school'.

timber there is one site. im currently looking for a front fairing myself but im more into the cafe style then the "fighter style" plus i want to keep my 7"
if you search google you will find a bunch of site that cater to that style of fairing. most are made for the newer bikes but can be adapted to fit.
