Seat cleanup...
23 Mar 2006 04:37
What has anyone used to put a real good clean-up on the seat? Saddle soap, a particular leather cleaner, GOOP hand cleaner....???
After an off-season of sitting in the garage, the usual dust and crud gets all over it and in the seams, etc. She (girlfriend) got some ArmourAll leather "treatment"....but I see no difference in this and regular ArmourAll, which is full of silicone.
Just curious what y'all use with good results.
Thanks!

So you guys, I'm resurrecting this thread. What IS the solution? I don't want to end up on my can in the street either but the SR seat needs something to perk it up.

Get a good vinyl cleaner at the autoparts store and clean it. (I'm assuming it is standard stock vinyl bike seat and not some custom work made of leather)
To prevent the sun from rotting it use "303", you can find it at places that sell spa's or better car psrts places. Not as slick as Armorall but still a bit so be sure to buff it good.
If your seat is a dull blackish gray color or very hard it might be too far gone but you can try "NuVinyl" by itself after cleaning the seat. It too can be slick so be sure to buff it well afterwards.
If you are a waterhose bike washer then don't use kitchen soap like Dawn on it. Yes it will clean but it will also take out the plastizers in the vinyl and cause it to be brittle.
