76 kz900 stock seat
21 Nov 2009 02:46
Hello
I'm restoring a 76 kz900, as stock as i can.
I would like to buy a stock seat but i cant understand which is a exact original stock seat for that model.
I mean if you look on ebay you can find seats that look different, but all stating "stock seat".
Now i want to be sure to buy an original one.
Can anyone tell me with pics or links which is an original seat for that bike?
Did it have the string across the seat in the middle?
On buykawasaki.com the seat is without string and has squares on the top. many original seats on ebay and looking for images in internet for stock bikes pics have the string, and not squares on top.
I'm getting very confused about that
need help!
Thanks

The seats on the bikes sold in the US market did not come with a strap on the seats. Bikes sold in Europe did come with seat straps as well as dual disc front brakes. As Roy suggested talk to Z-1 ent they sell nice repro seats that are correct for your bike. Pretty reasonable price as well.

great!
at least now i know why many pics of stock bikes show the seat without the strap.
i live in italy so i guess i need one!
now about the cover, i only need to find out what kind is the stock one.
This one?
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...AX:IT#ht_9663wt_1165
Or this one?
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KAWASAKI-KZ900-K...b603f#ht_1541wt_1165
That is the question!

The second one is correct for a Z900A4 (see Marsden's restoration guide). However, be aware that you'll also need the rubber bits that ride on the frame and are not attached to the seat pan. I also don't see the latch. You should also be aware that if you are restoring to European specs, the seat strap is still available from PMC (in Japan for about US$25.00)...talk to Jeff at www.Z1Enterprises.com and he can order it for you. Marsden's book is a nice place to start for a restoration but it is no longer in print...borrow one if you can...they are pricey now, used.

Thank you all
Anyway after a lot of searches on the internet i'm pretty sure the first one is the correct cover pattern for the kz900a4.
