I am considering fabricating my own seat pan and was looking for input on what guage and type of metal I should use?

i wouldnt go any thinner than .065 and .125 is too thick.whatever steel hot/cold rolled shouldnt much matter, long as the price is right :-).

12 or 14 guage, which would roughly be how many pieces it would take to equal an inch.

Just got done doing mine out of 12 gauge. I used a tin snips and a set of sheet metal hammers to pull it off. I didn't use heat and it turned out ok. I'll post pictures after this weekend.

I used .100", or was it .095" aluminum.

To make the edge bends nice and neat, I first ground a shallow groove on the backside with a thin grinding wheel along a metal straight edge. Then the bend went beautifully.
