How do you get Kreem out of a gas tank?

Okay guys, here is the deal: I've got a Kreem coated fuel tank and I want that crap out of there. Do any of you know how to get it out. No worries about ruining the paint, it's going to get a re-paint and a new fuel-valve anyway. I'd just kaw-boy up for a new tank, but it's a one-year-wonder so a tank is going to be difficult to come by.

Thanks!

I'm assuming that you just got this tank from somewhere. If that is the case, usually someone cream lines it due to excessive rust and possable pin hole leaks at the seams.

Is there some readon that you want it out of there? did you have a bad expirience with cream lined tanks before?

Yep, Acetone. Use in well ventilated area with no flames or sparks. Stuff is nasty. Zmoto has a good point about uncovering problems. GLuck!

The POR-15 folks make a product that supposed to removed "failed liner products". So far I've not had a need to try it. I do have another POR-15 tank sealer kit ready to go into a tank I bought earlier this year to get painted.

Thanks for the responses. I'll see what happens with the acetone...I had guessed that this might be the route.

No, this is not a tank from 'somewhere'. I had a bike that I sold to a friend, he owned it for about 10 years, then I recently bought it back. He kreemed the tank and I have personally never had anything BUT problems with kreemed tanks. Some idiot wanna-be mechanic wrongly advised the previous owner that the fuel cap seal was leaking, or "pin holes", or "thin metal"...what horse crap. This tank was near perfect inside. Not a speck of rust. I can't believe that my friend was this gulable...now I have this crap drifting down stream in the fuel line. I've re-built the carbs twice this summer and had a (true) mechanic friend of mine clean the carbs on it three(!) times...again, just this summer. I know some people can make that crap work...whatever...not me...ever. I hate Kreem with a white-hot seething rage. I've actually tossed tanks because of that crap before; but I can't with this one b/c it's my 82 GPz750...try finding a fuel tank for THAT one! :pinch:

Anyway, thanks guys for the feedback; think I've got the wisdom that I need. For the record I'm going to start with the acetone and then go to the POR-15 if that doesn't work.

I'll post results.

If anyone else has "more" to add; please feel free as I probably won't do this until next month.

Thanks fellas!
