First off, thanks people for all this info....this rocks! ok, my tank has a lid that doesn't take a key,i don't like that at all. Second i like the fatter tanks with the bigger Kawasaki emblems,it's simple as taking one off and putting the wide 5 gal tank on right?
Current bike..1977 kz1000 1075cc kit,dyna everything,lotsa chrome,kerker pipe.

some will swap right on, some wont. im sure some one on here will know which ones will swap over with no mods. i have an 84 Kz550 and i tried to put a 78 kz750 tank on, didnt work at all. but i got a 1968 honda tank on with almost no mods. i would suggest to take a look at how and where your tank attaches, and when you are looking at other ones, be sure they are similar

I'm curious, too.

I'm about to buy a '78 KZ1000 LTD which needs a tank. It currently has the smaller tank which has a huge dent in it; and, I'd like to replace it with the larger tank. Anyone know if this will work?

Thanks in advance B)

Cool ~ I'll start my shoppin' now.

BTW: Nice looking bike (and tank).
The larger seems to fit the LTD quite well. :cheer:

Anything will fit if you take the time to do it. I've got an 80 xs eleven tank on mine and moding another xs eleven tank to have a newer style cap and maybe some preformed-knee dents from the donor tank as well.
