1977 KZ1000 Ltd Clearcoat

Does anyone know what type of clearcoat was used 0n a 1977 kz1000 ltd. I have just purchased one, and the paint is in excellant condition but the clearcoat is scuffed up, and the decals need replaced. Any help appreciated

Don't know about the clearcoat, but I just checked at www.reproductiondecals.com and they do have your model and year listed.

I have recleared original paint 73 and 74 900 parts with PPG Acrylic Lacquer and I thought the original clear reacted like it was acrylic lacquer. 77 clear looks to be the same as the 73-74 clear. That being said you should also be able to reclear it with urethane or acrylic lacquer. The original clear had no UV protection and if you remove the stripes I'm sure you will see that the original Candy Red or Blue has faded from exposure to the sun.

You say scuffed up you mean lite scuffs or deep scratches ? Or checked ,,anything more than lite scratches will need repainted and clearcoated.In the mid 70s lots of acrilics were sprayed..
