Windshield
28 Jun 2009 09:58
I'm looking for a windshield for my KZ1000. Apparently what I want is no longer made for my bike.
This style is what I would like. shop.nationalcycle.com/perl/cycle/N2220 ?
This particular windshield may be usuable on my bike. I have written Nation Cycle for more info.
Does anyone have any experience with a particular windshield of this style.
Any info will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Robert

I've tried all the windshiels manufacturers that I can think of. The problem is that they don't provide enough dimensions and/or pics to really help make a decision.
If I could lay my hands on the various models, I'm sure I could find one.
Next best is to find someone that has already done it.

Besides, I think the classic style would look cool with my Aftermarket floorboards and police solo seat.

Anything that is listed as "universal fit for round headlight" for your size handlebars will work good as long as it's to your taste. I thought they were cheap untill I bought one for my daily driver and it works great. Installing can be a bit touchy trying to getting the clamps and supports to line up but once you have it where you want it they don't move. Any type of custom fit windshield for an older bike is almost impossible to find unless you have a harley.

With "police style" windshield, am suspecting disappointment when riding because of wind buffeting, regardless of various angle and/or height settings.
Also had same results with several other shapes, small to large (most being handle bar fitted). Police version was fork mounted, without lowers. Myriad adjustments making little difference. Some with "lowers," and some without. And with various amounts of hand coverage. Some barn doors. Some mini windshields "just for looks," hardly larger than a bullet headlight fairings.
Vetter Windjammer frame mounted fairing was the only truly effective design having a nice still air pocket. But actually got too hot in summer riding where a little more breeze is appreciated. Optional vents helped a little, but usually rattled. VWJ is super nice in cold weather and rain riding and through twilight bugs. Not a five minute on/off option.
Mechanical engine noise is much amplified with the Vetter Windjammer.
Hope to be wrong in this instance and that a cool looking police style windshield is out there somewhere to offer non-wind-buffeting protection.
Many of the aftermarket accessory fork or handlebar windshields are imo unsuitable for riding at spirited road speeds (think guillotine).
Good Luck!
