Ceramic Coating...Should I?
18 Jun 2009 07:50 - 18 Jun 2009 09:07
I was thinking of having my header pipes coated in ceramic. The pipes are discolored(bluing and brown). I tried all the latest removers, but the pipes still look awful.
I heard about ceramic coatings and wondered if I should have it done. Does anyone have any knowledge on this?

I've had my buell pipes Jethot coated. Looks really good. It doesn't look anything at all like chrome. Up close it looks like silver paint. From any distance at all it kinda looks like brushed stainless. Maintenance free. I've had it for 3 seasons and looks just like it did out of the box. Not cheap though.

I had my rusty Kerker high heat powder coated black.
First sand blasted then coated.
Been holding up well for the last two years.
Sure beats the high heat BBQ paint, but did cost a lot more.

well worth doing a freind of mine just did his vance and hines pro pipe that he has used hard every summer for about 12 years and the pipe lookslike new again not chrome but like mortorman said brushed stainless and not only that but it actually made more power to because the pipe holds the heat in the pipe and helps scavange the exhaust from the other cylinders.

I had a Kerker 4 into 1 done many years ago by a company called Flame Spray. They grit blasted the paint off and then Aluminum sprayed it. It's been holding up well for all these years.

I had a chrome Kerker header in tough shape. I bead blasted it to get the rust off and rough up the chrome surface. Then I used a cermaic header paint from NAPA called VHT. It was reccommended by another member on this forum. The VHT worked great, and best of all its cheap.
If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.
