When you get it back, be sure to remove the powder coating where the ground wires will go.

In fact, you may want to look into some of the metallic powder coat colors for the legs. They can make them look like aluminum or chrome. Ed

You can send more or less all your bits and bobs. Just make sure they know where not to powdercoat. Many people have had to spend a whole lot of time working to get even a few stray particles out of their bearing races on the neck, etc

If you're having the frame powdercoated, then I'd get the swingarm, triple clamps, footpeg mounts, motor mount plates, battery box, etc. done at the same time.

One con that is about cleared for me is the bar riser on the 82 Gpz. It turned into a bear to compress the powder over they years to keep the bars from moving later...

I's all over now after being taken on and off so many times. It's compressed to the point there is no more give in the surface.

It's one of the things the nascar teams had to learn about with wheel lugs. They weren't staying on after a few laps and needed to scrub out the contact point so there was a good bite lug to rim.

In all Powder is great but remember the only way to patch is spray over with other paint that matches closly....

My 82 was stripped back in the early 80s and all the bits I could powder were. All satin black.

Later after the second rebuild creating the KZR other bits were powder gloss black...

Now it has about 5 or 6 different black finishes on the bike.

If you want to avoid powder on mated surfaced there is a tape used to mask that can handle the heat cure process...

I was luckey on the second pass in the 90s to have a powder shop next door. The owner just gave me the tape to mask all the parts myself. Still made a couple mistakes.

Live and learn...

Actually regular masking tape can handle the heat, just not very well. And you'll need to remove the adhesive residue with WD-40 and some time. I found this when I didn't have enough of the hi-temp masking tape left and needed to seal off the back of the valve cover.

I'd send anything that is currently painted to be PC'ed. It is a tougher finish than paint and one less thing to worry about. I had my battery box, engine mount brackets, wheels, frame, swingarm, brake stay, front fender, etc pc'ed. I'm going to coat the calipers someday when I have time to take them apart and rebuild them. Also, ask for a coating that will hold up well against brake fluid, gas, oil, etc.

Also whomever your doing it with should show you some finished product to ensure you approve of their work.

Mask off mount points and mating surfaces and you'll be very happy. Good point on the ground lugs!

Just keep in mind if you absolutely have to there are spray paints that can match well for touch up. Just try and keep that to a minimum. ;)

One of these days I'll tear mine down for a new finish.

Just not yet. I ain't done yet. :P
