Pilot Cover Restore???
07 Mar 2006 18:31
Hi, can anyone give me any suggestions on how to restore a pilot cover on my 1981 KZ1000 CSR???
I have seen lots of aftermarket covers for just about everything except the CSR's. A new oem part is about $85-90. alittle or (alot) steep in my book for that little piece of plastic that is not broken just faded......
Thanks in advance for all your help..... Again !!!
Best wishes to all... Don (tnt79z28)

Yes I can paint the exterior but I am looking to bring back the lettering IE: highbeam, neutral, turn. The only part that is subsurface is the ignition part, which I can paint white and wipe off any excess. My hand is not steady enough to freehand the other portions though.
Here is a pic I found(of another bike) of what it should look like..... Thank You...... Don

Just a couple ideas.. try some plastic polishing compound. Tubes are like $3 and get a couple spiral wheels that go on a diegrinder. It might work.. might not. I have used this stuff to polish straches out of headlights/taillights.
www.eastwood.com
will have wheels/compound(should have plastic)
For the white part.. I say try to freehand it.. if you dont like it, wipe it off and try again until you are happy.
