Custom Side Covers was created by KZBobber
I am looking for custom side covers to replace my current KZ1000 LTD covers. Does anyone know where I can find custom metal/diamond plate side covers. I do not have the resources right now to make my own.

I think this would go well with my bike's old school, bobber look.

Any suggestions?

if you have a grinder or hacksaw and some plate you have a way of making your own and they will be cheaper then buying something made up also you will need a black marker do you have one of those. most of the stuff that has been built for the kawi's are motor pieces not a lot of funky aftermarket pieces are made but if you doit right you could start something.

I made templates out of cardboard and then traced to the aluminum. For mounts I used the brass fittings from a lamp shade. Picked them up for about 3.00/each at the local hardware store and cut them off and sanded to a bull nose. They have worked great now for 1300 miles with no issues.

I've got a cnc lathe program to make the push in points that go into the rubber gromets. They work with the aftermarket side covers that require screws.

Thanks for all the feedback. I am looking for something simple and clean. A couple of plates (preferrably diamond plate) that covers up all the exposed area under the seat. If I had the resources I would build my own, but would like to buy some.

All it took was a jig saw, belt sander, and took them to a shop to get the single bend. Heres a pic of the modified push-ins I used. Then tapped them to a 1/4-20 thread and used a SS bolt. The picture is the original, cut off, and rounded on a little belt sander.

Do you have to form a curve in the AL plate?
