Stock Paint for 1976 Kz900-A4

Anyone know where I can find a stock paint job for the 1976 Kz900-A4? I'm looking to repaint the bike, but I wasn't positive what it looked like from the factory. Also, if there were multiple color schemes, is there any way to find out which one it had originally?

The 76 came in two colors, brown and green. It was not painted in one color though. For example on the brown, first there was a purple color base, than there was a clear coat with metallic flake, than there was a translucent yellow, than the gold pinstripe and finally a clear. Due to the fact that all these colors were in lacquer, it will take an extremely talented painter to reproduce the paint effect with the modern Polly paints, since Lacquer is no longer available.

Once I find a replacement set of chrome exhaust to replace the rusty set that's on the bike she'll be picture ready. The rusty stuff just detracts from the bodywork.......................markerdown

Thanks Ralph. I will also be restoring my "Brown 76" and also a red 77 1000. I would be interrested in buying paint for both. I will contact you dirrectly, so we are not violating the rules here.

OT,

I have not worked on the formulas for the 77 Red yet, but I do have a good unfaded tail section to work up a match from. That color is probably a mauve base, silver flake mid coat, and a Candy red top coat.
