Replacement tank was created by Chazaq
I have a 1982 1100 spectre. The tank is completly rusted out. Any suggestions as to where I can get a new/used one.

Thanks,
Scott

Hello Scott, and WELCOME to KZR forum! :)
We're glad you're here! :cheer:

Question please about the tank, just to confirm whether there might be an option for restoration to serviceable condition.

Is rust all over the interior but tank presently holds fuel without leaking, or are there big gapping rust holes beyond any hope of brazing closed?

Asking because sometimes tanks appear completely rusted internally, but not rusted completely through, and are structurally sound enough to be restored. A few pinholes won't necessarily preclude restoration.

Whereas tanks that have completely rusted through may be relatively beyond hope.

If in doubt, would posting a pic be possible?

Good Luck! :)

I had the tank sandblasted with the intention of having it powder coated. When blasted several major holes were exposed. Soft spots in the metal were also exposed. I don't think brazing would be advised.

thanks

In which case, you are probably relegated to watching eBay...I know it an easy answer for us to lay on you, but is the source of parts for many of our older bikes. Have patience, a replacement tank will appear on eBay.

That one tank on Ebay looks good Chaz. I don't want to hijack the thread but does anyone here know what the going price is for tanks like these. I have a 650 and am looking for a replacement. The guy I bought from replaced the tank He first filled in the nameplate areas with bondo before repainting. He wanted that "custom" look. So, I am looking for a tank in good condition too. What is the range for tanks from acceptable condition to NOS?

Sometimes you can really luck out, other times, it is always Friday the 13th. I picked up an NOS (dealer take-off because of a small ding) KZ1000B1 tank for US$10.00...the seller didn't clean the tank and it looked terrible...I washed/waxed when I received it and it looks fantastic now (the inside was immaculate). On the other hand, I picked up an NOS KZ1100B1 tank with a BIN of $200.00 and it was worth every penny. Recently, I won a used but in exceptional condition KZ750R1 tank for US$235.00. So, the bottom line being you might pay as much as US$300.00 for a highly contested tank on eBay or you might just acquire one for considerably less that meets your needs.
