28 Feb 2009 21:34 - 31 Jul 2009 18:29
1- i want to cut down my front fender and was wondering if anyone has pics so i can kinda judge how much i should cut off
2- i haven't worked much in the last few months,I'm working enough to support my family but not much for anything else.i need body work and paint and was gonna send everything out but now it seems like i have to try and do it myself.i have never ever never done any type of body work so was hopeing that someone knew of a sight that had videos on how to do it.everywhere i go they show you 2 minutes of how to and 3 minutes of how you can buy the dvd and learn how to do it like the pro's blah blah blah,i would like something that is a freebeee

If you have a compressor, the problem isn't knowing how to paint, it is having the skill to paint. I know basically HOW to do what needs to be done but laying on clear coat without it being too thin or turning into a puddle is more practice than anything else. The base coat actually isn't terrible to get right and you can sand and touch up if you mess up some. Practice on your trash can a bunch with the clear until you can lay it on in the correct thickness. I think the MAIN advantage the pro has is those zillion practice strokes before he gets to your work. ALSO... couple of thoughts... Prep is the key to making the job look good. Most of us can't sit still long enough to do a good job sanding filler and the old surface. Next thing is to make SURE you take off your gas cap and paint up onto the filler neck. If you don't, the paint will separate in that area and come off around the gas cap. Once you have dried clear and this happens, it is hard to sand the area and fix it... that is a high-skill chore so it is best to get the paint on in that area correctly the first time. Last thing is to check for leaks BEFORE doing any body work... leaks will be in the form of pin holes. It is easiest to pressure test the tank... they tend to rust on the seam on the bottom and lower side just above the seam. A pinhole WILL show up after paint as a bubble in your new paint job will appear. JB Weld or brazing work fine to fix any pinholes.
