bring out the black in the tank paint

My question is for my friend, he has a '01 Shadow 1100, black paint. The paint is still really good, just that it has light scratches in it. I tried rubbing compound, and it dident touch it. The paint on that tank, is hard as glass. I know this is a kaw site, but hey, its paint. Anybody know what will cut thru, other than sanding, and will bring back that deep black luster?

I would guess it has a base coat clear coat system, if the scratches are real bad, light sanding with 2000, ans a machine buff may be required

I would pull the tank and take it to a local auto painter. He can most likely scuff it up and just clear coat it...Russ
