Hole in Gas Tank was created by Nothreat
I have been noticing a gas smell in the garage for a few days, but couldn't find it. Finally this morning I noticed a drop of fluid under my bike. I look into it and finally located a very tiny hole in the bottom of my gas tank. It had been rubbing a bolt for a while I guess. What is the best way to repair a hole? It is so small you can barely see it, but gas does drip out slowly. Can I solder it?

there are types of two step epoxy that are gas resistant and you might be able to get by temporarly with something like that. gut a piece of sheet metal about a 1/2" around and rough up the area around the hole and put a thin layer of epoxy in that roughed-up area then put your metal patch over the area before it dries then put a thicker coat over top the metal patch and let it dry for at least 24 hours before you try to put fuel in it. remember this is only a temporary solution. if you try to solder it will be tough to get enough heat in it get the solder to flow properly.

Assuming this hole is on the tank seam?

Either way, would the Kreme product take care of a small hole?... Just a thought for I know it works on seams.

I guess it really depends on the size of the hole.

Pictures with a tape measure next to it?

ive had several tanks repaired over the years
empty tank, flush, and get it brazed by a welder.

The hole is right in the middle of the bottom of the tank (it is a Vulcan tank)along the bike frame. Itis so small you can't really tell it is a hole until you see the gas come out.I thought about epoxy, but figured it wouldn't hold up to the gas. I think the brazing is my best bet. At least it waited until the riding season was done. Thanks for your ideas.

Chances are that that spot is only the first to leak. I'd pick up some Pour 15 and repair the tank properly.

if you have a soldering gun, the kind with a trigger that hums, and electronic solder (60/40)you should be able to solder it up pretty easy
sand it shinny clean first
