Gloss Black mag wheels on my Z1

I have finally figured out what i wanna do with the mag wheels i have for the z1. I wanna paint them Glossy black, i think it will look sick with the black tank, side covers tail and fenders. My question is what should i use to get rid of the paint thats on there now? Im planning on using the wheel paint they sell at auto zone. The wheels are from what i beleve was a 1979 ltd 1000. first use a good aircraft stripper $7 @ autozone. then primer them lightly, and paint them with either your glossy black, or an exhaust paint. something tough, so you aren't doing this next spring...

What should i use to actually strip the paint off the wheel after i spray the stripper? Here is the look im going for.

Personally,I would glass-bead the rims.It's a lot more affective,and less time involved.Look for a shop that will either do it for you,or let you use their cabinet(for a fee).
Another thing...are you sure you want to go gloss?
How long will gloss stay gloss,after cleaning those rims?A couple of seasons,maybe?
How about a SATIN finish?

I painted my car rims with Gloss Black Tremclad and topped it off with Tremclad Clear Coat and the shine has held up wonderfully for the past two years. Not even a chip on them. My bike rims are semi-gloss right now but I'm thinking of painted them gloss over the winter.

I did mine in graphite from dupocolor rim paint it looks great and people thinks I had them powder coated.

You could also try smoothing them out before paint or powder. It will take forever but look nice.

Ya i will smooth them out like i said it's a winther project and the chicago winters are long and cold. And im taking the whole thing apart down to the frame. Powdercoating the frame, swingarm. Tearing into the motor, new rings valve seals and such. Upgrading to tripple disk from a 79 ltd 1000. Im still stuck on the paint im leaning towards gloss black cause thats what color my dad painted it, but then again the stock colors would look cool running down the 1/4 mile.......lol

I used the chem stripper and a bronze brush. I was going to do a clear or chrome powder coat. Instead did the semi-gloss black as it holds up better to the chemicals. Either way they look pretty good.

I used Dupli color rally wheel silver to just paint the black part of my 78's wheels. Just cleaned them with lacquer thinner and taped them off carefully. Came out real nice for low cost. I know thats not the look you want but its a method of getting it. Have a paint store mix up some spray cans of black paint, it's much better then spray cans you buy. Juat rough up the shiny parts with Scotch Brite first so the paint sticks. Then theres also powder coating thats much better & costly
