Best method to clean aluminum tanks

What would you guys advise to clean an aluinum tank thats been setting for years with stale gas in it that wont damage the paint on it ? Ive heard mineral spirits and even PineSol cleaner

if you can plug the holes up really good id try acetone shake the hell out of it and drain then let it air out in the sun.install a good inline filter ;)

ace hardware has aluminum cleaner called "Nice N Easy aluminum cleaner"
cleaned the stains and crud from my bmw tank, made it look new inside
cup of cleaner, quart of water, shake it, ten minutes later new looking
shouldn't hurt the paint, didn't hurt my primer
