Mirror Mount
03 Sep 2008 21:10
This is a simple question... sort of lame, but I do respect the power of these forums and the many opinions available for helping with descisions. I have no interest in re-inventing the wheel
I have a hydrolic clutch and just added a new aftermartket front brake master cylinder to match. Now I have nowhere to stick the mirror. For me, bar-ends are not an option.
The new lever mounts do have a non-threaded hole, but considerably smaller then the original mounts - 10mm I think. Anyone have ideas as to a brand/stlye or should I go shopping to see what's available with a thinner stalk mount and just nut the other end.

You could always tap a hole if you have room on your new lever assembly. Other than that I dont know what else besides bar end type wich you allready stated you do not want.

Look in a junk-yard for an individual mirror-mount.
I had the same problem when I installed my new master cylinder, and I ended up finding a mirror-mount,with no lever attachments areas...only for a mirror.
I had to shave the one side flat,so it would clear the new master cylinder, and it works perfectly.
Take a look at the pic.
OMG,there's RUST on my bike!
It's only the windshield mount...phew!

I found this with a quick search on Google. Not sure it will fit - I have the same issue with my brake master cylinder which was replaced and am looking for a similar solution. I agree a salvage yard would be cheaper...

That's nifty.
I did find that the whole in mine will accommodate an 8.mm stalk, instead of the old 10mm. I'm going to see what is available with the smaller end... then may revert to this adapter.

Just a thought, look at the clutch/brake masters on the dealer's /wreckers. units. on many, the in board half clamp is drilled/tapped for mirrors. nearly all are 6mm clamps, if clamping centers are same, see if you can order them seperatly. the zx7 comes to mind,. and cost about 15 bucks.G

Just for reference, the 95-96 GPz1100 uses a hydraulic clutch and both master cylinders have holes for the mirrors. Same master cylinders are used on several bikes, ZG1000, ZX9, ZX600E, and a few more of various years.
