Which KZ tank is this??

Hello everyone
I got a tank on ebay that was sold to me as 1976 KZ900 tank, but other KZ900 tanks (non LTD) have a different hole for the petcock. Can anybody identify this tank? Looks like the petcock attaches with two bolts.

That is not a KZ900 tank for sure. As you pointed out the petcock mounting system is wrong for a 900 or a 1000. I'm not sure what year the KZ1000's switched over to the new style petcock was but I'm thinking it was 78. So your tank could be from a 78 KZ1000 A model or it could be off a police bike. Kawasaki kept that style tank for the police bikes for quite some time.

I happen to have my factory shop manual here next to the computer and it looks like the fuel tank for any of the following models KZ/Z1000-K & M and KZ/Z1000-J. My manual is for modelyears 1981-82.

It shows the slot for the fuel petcock. Hope this helps

It is not a K & M tank. My M2 tank has a bolt hole at the back. This one has a hook for a rubber strap at the back. As I posted in one of the other several posts by the OP :blink:, it looks exactly like the A2A tank that I have on my B2.

Yep, goin' with The Gringo and Skyman on this...it is a 1978 KZ1000A2 tank. Kawasaki did switch to a bolt on petcock in 1978 and then the tank style changed in 1979 to a MarkII. The tank will fit on a 900 frame but you'll have to change petcocks, obviously.
