I messed up screw threads for tank emblems

Hi guys,
I'm currently repainting the gas tank and side covers of my 1100 Ltd Shaft, but in the process I stripped three out of the four tank emblem screws. I drilled out the screw heads to remove the emblems.

Now the painting work is nearly complete, I have to think of ways to put the emblems back on. I drilled a small hole in the center of the screw stem hoping to remove the leftover pieces of metal. It didn't work. What would be the best way to restore the threads? Do I need to tap threads? (Never done that before.) Or should I just "cheat" by using double-sided tapes or glues instead of the screws? Thanks!

Go to Wally World (WalMart) and buy some E6000, stuff is amazing. It dries pliable but strong. If it needs to be removed it can. We use it at work, and seriously, this crap does work!

You may also try a left hand drill bit. With the drill in reverse it may spin the rest of the screw out! I have used this on several occasions and it usually works well.

The screws that hold the tank badges are pan type and if you use anything except a pan screw, it looks kind of tacky. The screws are M3 w/ .5 pitch and if you strip these, you can't really do much because if you use M4 screws after retapping, the pan head won't fit in the countersink in the badge. Best to glue on the badges at this point.

permatex made a liquid thread repair product, I am not sure if they still make it, but you were able to fill the hole with the "glue" insert the screw and let it dry, after that you could back out the screw and have a fixed thread,
I havent seen it in a while, but the stuff worked great for no load bearing repairs

Here is another idea.....I used rivets.

It is not countersunk, but does look pretty cool and permenant, unless someone else wants to repaint the bike long after i am gone.
